This beautiful cedar bowl is carved in form of a frog with abalone inlay around the rim and at the eyes. In Gitxsan culture, there is an oral history of Nox Ga'naaw, Frog Mother, whose leaves her eggs to hatch along the streams and ponds near the Xsan. The Frog Mother is illustrative of the matrilineal system within the community, and provides a cultural context to the significance of this wonderful creature to Gitxsan people.
